Ngare Serian Camp – Private Mara North Conservancy Camp
Ngare Serian’s exclusive safari camp stands out as one of the most private and eco-conscious safari camps among the twelve partner safari camps in the Mara North Conservancy. More intimate than the larger Ngare Serian, this smaller retreat is perfectly positioned along the banks of the Mara River. Its natural charm is accentuated by its unique access via a narrow rope bridge. Once you cross, you enter an eco-friendly retreat where time slows down, and nature takes center stage. It’s close enough to the Maasai Mara National Reserve for day trips, yet far enough to enjoy peace and solitude away from the crowded safari trails. This camp and safari experience is ideal for those with an adventurous spirit who value the camp’s eco-friendly efforts to minimize environmental impact.
What makes this camp unique is its composition of only four luxury safari tents, making it perfect for family safaris or group adventures with friends. Open all year round all-round, its exclusive use and limited number of tents means availability may be limited during peak times. Each of the four spacious tents is strategically located along the riverbank, providing guests with stunning views of the Mara River and the hippo pods in its waters. The camp also offers vistas of the towering Oloololo Escarpment in the distance, a perfect natural backdrop to the wildlife you’ll observe nearby. With no wifi, you’ll be completely off the grid, allowing room for full immersion in the local wildlife without distractions.
The camp’s inviting, spacious safari tents are built on sturdy hardwood decks, an ideal spot for enjoying a hot morning coffee and a cozy place to relax after an exciting safari day. Each tent includes an en-suite bush bathroom with hot and cold running water, flush toilets, and delightful open-air showers. Electricity is available 24/7, powered by solar panels and a backup generator system. The stylish décor features antiques, Zanzibar four-poster beds with bedside tables, decks with plush couches perfect for lounging, and beautiful open-air sunken bathtubs on the veranda offering a stunning view of the river, adding a touch of comfort and elegance. While you’re here, why not emulate the hippos? Enjoy a soothing soak in your veranda’s tub, taking in the sights and sounds of the surrounding bush and wildlife.
Most of the Ngare Serian camp’s staff come from local Maasai communities and are renowned for their warmth and exceptional service. They are committed to ensuring every guest has the best possible safari experience. The camp not only employs local Maasai but also maintains strong ties with nearby manyattas (Maasai villages) and is recognized for its eco-friendly practices. The camp features spacious tents and a comfortable lounge and viewing deck for all guests to enjoy, a perfect place to mingle with fellow safari travelers. The serian camp’s delicious farmhouse-style meals are typically served al fresco under the stars by candlelight by the riverside or in the camp’s intimate dining room. All meals and drinks (excluding premium beverages) are included in
Things to Do at Ngare Serian
As picture-perfect as Ngare Serian may be, there’s still so much more to see and explore in its surroundings. During your stay, you’ll have exclusive use of an open-top/panoramic view 4WD safari vehicle (one per tent) with your own dedicated guide and spotter. One of the benefits of staying at a camp within the Mara North Conservancy is that you’ll not only be able to go on daytime (morning or full day) game drives, but you’ll also be able to set out on game drives after dark, embark on daytime walking safaris, or go river fishing. These safaris, river fishing, and game drives will be made all the more special because of the bush breakfasts, lunches, and lovely sundowners with your favorite drinks and appetizers set up by your dedicated guide, and tracker in the most scenic locations. Other activities you can undertake during your stay include a cultural visit to a local Maasai community, hot-air balloon safaris, stargazing, fly camping (a walking safari with an overnight stay in a tent), and birdwatching (453 recorded bird species in the area). Please note that some of these activities come at an additional cost.
As an extra special treat, Ngare Serian camp also has its own treehouse known as ‘The Nest’ which can be booked for an overnight stay or an afternoon picnic getaway. There’s no better vantage point for falling asleep beneath the vast African starry sky to the sound of the rustling leaves swaying in the breeze. The Nest is built upon a sturdy limb of the Warburgia tree overlooking the Mara River. The treehouse has two nest-shaped beds for a romantic night out for two, but enough space for a few additional bed rolls if you’re looking for an adventurous night out for the whole family. Located just a short stroll from camp, The Nest is close enough to enjoy all the camp’s facilities but far enough away to make the whole ngare serian experience even more adventurous and out there. The Nest’s state-of-the-art night vision camera will allow you to spot nocturnal creatures roaming the grounds beneath you in the dark. A surcharge applies when booking a stay in The Nest (you will need to keep your room at Ngare Serian).
