Glamping Among Giraffes and Gazelles at Maasai Mara
Governors’ Il Moran is part of the ‘Governors’ safari camps collection located in the Masai Mara National Park. Il Moran Safari Camp is small, intimate, and delightfully plush. Nestled within the National Reserve’s Musiara Sector, the accommodation is surrounded by abundant wildlife and stunning views. The camp’s ten spacious luxury safari tents are discreetly positioned among ancient trees along the winding Mara River. The accommodation maintains a traditional and permanent feel, blending seamlessly with its environment. Local wildlife is so comfortable with the serene safari accommodation that you might spot a giraffe or elephant wandering through. At night, the sounds of hippos grunting in the darkness create a unique ambiance.
The main communal area of the camp is elegantly furnished with dark, chunky wooden tables, oversized blue couches, a colorfully beaded chandelier, African artefacts, and tribal portraits. The decor is a fascinating blend of contemporary and traditional design. Recently elevated, the entire communal area now rests on raised wooden decking. Enjoy fresh and appetizing candle-lit dinners served by waiters in the main dining tent overlooking the river. Breakfasts and lunches are typically served outdoors among the trees. As evening falls, the fire pit is lit, offering a cozy spot to enjoy your favorite drink by its warm glow. The camp’s staff is highly attentive, providing a personal nature approach to customer service designed to make your stay extra special. The central common area also includes a snug lounge and bar, perfect for a drink before dinner or after an invigorating safari. The lounge features clusters of comfortable sofas with cushions, complemented by cowhide armchairs. On the wooden viewing deck overlooking the river, you can relax in a wicker chair and take in the view.
Il Moran’s ten spacious safari tents have been recently refurbished, exuding a light and airy feel with neutral tones of beige and grey. Each tent is outfitted with a hand-carved king-sized olive-wood bed (locally crafted from reclaimed wood), a heavy wooden writing desk with a copper lamp, and a large comfy sofa. The floors are adorned with heavy carpets and cowhides. The tents boast large en-suite bathrooms separated from the bedroom by zip-up flaps. Bathrooms feature twin washbasins, hot and cold running water, expansive walk-in showers, and a freestanding claw-foot bathtub with a shower attachment. Tents are equipped with electric lamps, charging stations for cameras and mobile phones, and plenty of African artifacts to enhance the safari atmosphere. Set on large concrete stone plinths, the tents are fully mosquito-proofed. At the front of each tent, a private verandah with wicker chairs and a hammock invites you to relax. A generator runs continuously, allowing for the charging of batteries and mobile phones.
