Angama Mara, one of the most exclusive safari lodges in the Mara ecosystem, is situated in a remarkable part of the Greater Mara area. It is located near the Mara Triangle, a section of the Maasai Mara National Reserve managed by a non-profit conservancy company established by local Maasai communities. By collaborating, the Maasai have reduced poaching, improved infrastructure, and initiated community-run projects to support conservation efforts. ‘Angama’ is a Swahili word meaning ‘to be suspended mid-air,’ perfectly describing this safari lodge.
The angama, lodge is strategically positioned high on a ledge overlooking the Great Rift Valley and the Mara plains. The views are unparalleled and truly captivating. While slightly larger than most safari accommodations, Angama Mara’s 30 safari tents are divided into two separate camps, ensuring a private and intimate atmosphere. Each camp has identical communal areas. What distinguishes this camp is its flexible schedule for game drives, allowing guests to create their own safari itinerary without choosing between early morning game drives and late afternoon game drives.
The two separate camps share a chic central pavilion, featuring an infinity pool for a refreshing swim and a gym with a glass front for those who wish to exercise while enjoying the view. The pavilion also includes a Maasai design studio, a shop, a library, and a deck perfect for soaking in the mesmerizing scenery. Each guest party is assigned a personal ‘butler’ to enhance their stay, while all staff members are dedicated to meeting guests’ needs, including optional in-tent massages and nail treatments (surcharge applies).
Angama Mara’s tented suites are simply breathtaking, reminiscent of open-plan apartments. Each suite features a full glass façade, offering uninterrupted views of the Mara plains. The tents are thoughtfully positioned along the Oloololo escarpment to ensure privacy, providing a 180-degree panoramic view of the stunning landscape. Inside, you’ll find polished parquet floors, king-size beds, and elegant décor. The lodge is celebrated for its meticulous attention to detail, offering electric blankets for cooler nights and a fully stocked personal bar with your preferred beverages. For added privacy, blinds can be drawn over the glass front, or left open to witness a spectacular sunrise. The mesmerizing view is also visible from the sitting area, shower, freestanding bath, and the tent’s private verandah.
Meals at Angama Mara Lodge

Breakfasts feature freshly baked pastries, fruit, muesli, and a variety of cooked options like Swahili omelettes and scrambled eggs with or without halloumi. Lunchtime offers dining beneath the trees, with bush lunches including fresh salads and delicious sandwiches. Dinner presents a wide array of international dishes, with lantern-lit barbecues often held in the forest. Alternatively, dinners can be enjoyed in the communal guest area or the privacy of your own tent. Guests are welcome to serve themselves at the open bar at any time.
