This intimate tented camp is ideally positioned in a riverbend on the banks of the Talek River. Open from June to March, it’s only a twenty-minute drive from the Ol Kiombo airstrip. More importantly, for your safari adventures, it’s located just 150 meters from a key migration crossing point. Nestled in the southern part of the Musiara sector, within the heart of the Masai Mara National Reserve, Rekero Camp serves as the perfect launchpad for adventurous safari activities across the national reserve. However, you don’t even need to leave the camp to witness a variety of animals. Simply open your tent’s front hatch, take a seat, sip a cold drink, and observe the wildlife at your doorstep. When you feel like socializing, enjoy the two communal decks’ comfort, sharing safari stories with other guests over a glass of fine wine.

Rekero camp’s subtle khaki-colored tents with en-suite bathrooms, flushing toilets, and hot-water showers are understated and blend seamlessly into the landscape. This harmonious design encourages wildlife to venture closer to family tents, enhancing your viewing experience from within the camp. Rekero camp’s nine tents are comfortably equipped with all the creature comforts of home. The riverside tents, two of which are perfect for families, overlook the expansive African plains, teeming with wildebeest during migration season. Rekero features two communal decks, one with a canvassed lounge and dining area. The other deck, slightly smaller, offers stylish, comfy couches for enjoying a quiet sundowner. Breakfast and lunch are typically served on long communal tables on the main deck. Private dining options are also available for those seeking a more intimate experience. As the day ends, enjoy delicious dinners by the fireside on communal decks, accompanied by safari stories shared with family tents and fellow travelers.

Rekero’s tents are strategically spaced along private path along the riverbank, ensuring your privacy and a sense of exclusivity. Shaded by tall trees, the tents overlook the wooded banks of the Talek River. Each tent is accessible via its own private path to the camp’s main path. The tents feature screened windows that open for fresh air, while the surrounding bush ensures privacy from neighbors. At the front of each rekero camp out’ tent, there’s a screened-in area with a day bed, two director’s chairs, and a card table. Simply raise the screens, and a view of tall trees and the Talek River awaits you.

Things to Do at Rekero Camp

Rekero Camp offers a plethora of wildlife-focused activities. Here’s a glimpse into a typical day at Rekero Camp. Since dawn and dusk are optimal for game drives and wildlife viewing, an early morning wake-up call is essential. Begin your day with a peaceful cup of coffee while gazing across the murky river waters, followed by a delightful breakfast. Alternatively, if you’re not quite ready for breakfast, request a packed picnic to accompany you. After breakfast, one of the rekero camp rates’s esteemed Maasai guides, equipped with extensive knowledge of the land and its wildlife, will be ready to lead you. As the first light breaks, embark on an adventurous morning game drive in an open-sided or fully enclosed safari jeep. After several hours of spotting diverse wildlife, you’ll return to the rekero camp rates well by mid-morning. Freshen up and enjoy a delicious lunch. Post-lunch, indulge in some downtime for a quick nap, reading, or simply savoring a refreshing drink while observing wildlife from a comfortable chair. Following afternoon tea, set off for an evening game drive with sundowners. Night drives are also available for those interested in nocturnal wildlife. Upon returning to the rekero camp rates well, enjoy the warmth of the campfire and a delectable dinner.

Beyond game drives the safari experience at the camp also provides nature walks, bush picnics, visits to local villages, and trips to a local school. For families traveling with children, there’s the opportunity for children to learn bow-and-arrow making and usage. Bird watching is another exciting activity for young explorers.
