Cheetah camp is located close to a permanent water source making it a magnet for big cats like cheetahs. Porini Cheetah Camp offers a luxury safari experience, striving to minimize its ecological impact, with all energy sourced from solar panels. Open year-round, guests can witness the Great Wildebeest Migration from July to November, in addition to the abundant local wildlife, including servals, topis, giraffes, lions, waterbucks, and cheetahs.
Porini Cheetah Camp exudes a relaxed and unpretentious atmosphere. Its authentic safari ambiance is complemented by modern conveniences. Guests receive a warm Kenyan welcome from the hospitable Maasai staff, who ensure every stay exceeds expectations. The cheetah camp’s professional guides are highly trained, ensuring you spot wildlife in the area. Each of the six spacious safari tents is well-spaced and nestled beneath flat-topped acacia trees, ensuring privacy and comfort. This enhances the feeling of solitude in the wild, providing a serene sense of peace and tranquility.
Dining and lounge tents are located in the main common area, open-sided to allow a refreshing breeze. Tables, chairs, and umbrellas are set beneath the trees for outdoor dining. During your stay, all meals and most drinks (including bottled water, coffee, tea, soft drinks, house wines, local beers, and G&Ts) are included. Meals are typically served in the main dining tent or outdoors, weather permitting. Evening dining and lounge tents is by candlelight and the camp’s open-air fireplace. The chefs craft creative and delicious dishes using fresh, local ingredients, including freshly baked bread. Vegetarian meals are available upon request. You can also enjoy meals in the wild, such as a bush breakfast. The nearby White Rock offers a stunning setting for a sundowner with appetizing snacks and your favorite cocktail or wine, with breathtaking views from the top. The white rock together with a marsh fed by a permanent underground spring makes the area a magnet for antelopes and zebras.
Each spacious classic safari-style tent at Porini Cheetah Camp features an en-suite bathroom with hot and cold running water, a hot-bucket shower, a flushing toilet, and a sink. The tents have a clean and airy appearance, with soothing neutral tones and a harmonious blend of canvas and timber, creating a homey feel. Each tent is tastefully furnished with local materials, colorful pillows, a comfortable double bed with cozy blankets, bedside tables with LED lamps, a torch, a writing desk with a lamp, chairs, a wardrobe, a luggage rack, plug-in points for charging devices, and beautifully woven rugs. An additional bed can be added for a child or extra adult if needed. The large private patios at the front of the tents offer views of the surrounding forest, with chairs, a table, and a fan. Occasionally, you may spot zebras or wildebeest grazing nearby. If the evenings get chilly, a hot water bottle awaits on your bed.
Things to Do at Porini Cheetah Camp
Porini Cheetah Camp offers daytime and nighttime game drives, as well as walking safaris led by professional Maasai guides and trackers, conducted in 4×4 safari vehicles. The game drives occur within the Ol Kinyei Conservancy and the neighboring Naibosho Conservancy. Guests staying three or more nights can spend a day in the Masai Mara National Reserve with a guide and enjoy a picnic lunch. For a closer look at the natural surroundings, the camp’s Maasai guides lead bush walks or walking safaris through the Ol Kinyei conservancy. Bird watching is also one of the activities offered at the camp. A delightful treat is the ‘sundowner,’ featuring tasty appetizers and your favorite cocktail or wine, with sunset views from the camp’s comfortable chairs or other scenic points like White Rock.
